Testimonials

"I enjoyed my recent stay at Alden (December 8-14, 2011), so much that
I extended what I thought would be a 2- or 3-day stay to 5 full days and 6
nights. I'm delighted that I came and even happier that I decided to extend
my stay.
The PT at Glenbrook Hospital, where I had my right hip replaced on
December 5, told me twice that I was a perfect candidate for going straight
home from the hospital. After all, I'd had an anterior replacement, and I
was very physically fit.
When she asked why I chose to go to rehab instead, I told her that I was
concerned about the stairs I'd have to climb to the bathroom, plus the fact
that my husband is slightly disabled and might not be able to take as much
care of me as I'd need. When this PT asked the second time, though, I
started to think maybe she was right and I should go straight home.
She was wrong.
From my very first day at Alden, I felt surrounded by caring,
knowledgeable people, who were concerned for my well-being in every sense of
the word. Throughout my stay I got excellent, timely care from the capable
nurses. Instead of having to bother my husband, I could ask cheerful,
helpful aides to bring me extra pillows and ice packs, day and night.
They responded immediately to my requests every single time. And no one
ever acted as if he or she were too busy or considered these requests a
burden. My husband would gladly have done all these things, but my stay
meant I didn't have to exhaust him or take on too much myself in those first
few days.
The PT and OT departments gave me excellent workouts, added a session on
Sunday (when I assumed I'd be leaving on Monday), and got me into such great
shape that my Home Health Care (Northwest) PT says I'll be ready for
outpatient PT two weeks earlier than originally scheduled. I'm grateful for
useful PT and OT sessions that were personalized to my needs and requests.
The staff in the dining room served delicious, healthy, plentiful meals
with grace and flair. I loved the artfully folded cloth napkins and the
service, which would put many expensive restaurants to shame. The 4-person
tables afforded good opportunities for interesting conversation, and my
husband joined me for many of the dinners. We renewed acquaintance with some
people we'd known before, and I made some new friends.
When the guest list was full, the staff helped engineer my husband's
being able to join me for dinner on my last night. We both loved the
cheesecake. I also relished the salad bar and the afternoon snack cart,
though, now that I'm home, I'll have to get out of the habit of wondering
where it is every day at 3. My 2-year-old grandson adored the popcorn wagon
and ice cream parlor, where he got to choose his very first sundae.
The environment welcomed my family and visiting friends, including two
toddler grandchildren, who made quite a mess in the lounge. Had I been home,
it would have been much harder to "entertain" them, not to mention cleaning
up afterwards. Thanks to your efficient staff, every crumb disappeared
almost as soon as they did. The kiddos also loved the fish and birds, which
are a fantastic touch.
Your engineering staff were pleasant and helpful, and they responded
quickly when I had problems setting the thermostat and flushing the toilet.
When he saw that I was leaving, the janitor rushed to get the cart for us to
carry all the stuff I'd accumulated. He, along with other staff I never got
to know, never failed to greet me pleasantly, to ask how I was doing, or to
comment on how well I was walking. You've created an all-around friendly,
warm, welcoming, and healing environment. When I was ready to leave,
everyone facilitated my switch to outpatient care in minutes. And you even
provided the gift of a fleecy vest, which kept me cozy on my walk this
morning.
I would highly recommend Alden to anyone considering a stay at a
rehabilitative facility after hip or knee surgery. I loved every part of my
stay. So hip, hip, hurrah to you and your terrific staff for making it such
a wonderful experience."

"Alden Estates of Skokie exceeds all healthcare experiences I’ve ever
had. The warmth of everyone at the facility is refreshing and it’s great
that therapy is 3 times a day and everyone was focused on the well-being of
the patient’s recovery."

"It far exceeded my expectation. Alden Estates of Skokie is a boutique
and all so new. We have friends who stayed at nearby rehab facilities and it
doesn’t compare."
